Introduction

Currently, the AQI is gathering data on 700 Facilities and 4,300 providers (MD/CRNA/DO). We have over 1,250,000 cases in National Anesthesia Clinical Outcomes Registry (NACOR). This number is growing every day as new practices submit data and existing practices contribute their monthly cases.

We have practices who do everything on paper to the most wired academic centers in the country as members of AQI.

You do not need an AIMS system or Electronic Health Records to participate in AQI. We will work with you to contribute what data is readily available.

AQI is collecting the following types of data:

  • Billing/Administrative
  • Quality/Perioperative Events
  • AIMS data
  • Electronic Medical Record

The video is a message from Dr. Richard Dutton, AQI Executive Director.

In July, we published our first executive summary. The summary is available to AQI participants and members. In September, we introduced practice-level reporting. These reports let practices see their numbers alongside the aggregated numbers for all registry participants. We are currently working on the next set of reports.

AQI is listed as a Patient Safety Organization (PSO) by the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), is a member of the National Quality Forum (NQF) and Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group (MPOG).

Introducing the AQI: What's in it for you?
This article from the ASA Newsletter (October 2009, Vol 73, Number 10) introduces the AQI, it's vision and goals.

The vision of the AQI is to become the primary source of information for quality improvement in the clinical practice of anesthesiology.

The mission of the AQI is to develop and maintain an ongoing registry of case data that helps anesthesiologists assess and improve patient care. Organize the registry so that anesthesiology practice groups desire to submit their case information, and so that individual anesthesiologists, practice groups, researchers, and professional societies find the data useful for improving the quality of care.
