2019 MIPS scores available

CMS has released 2019 Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) performance feedback and final scores for Eligible Clinicians (ECs) and their groups. Final 2019 MIPS scores and performance feedback are available for downloading at the CMS Quality Payment Program website.

The performance feedback summary includes the following elements: measure-level performance data and score, activity-level scores, performance category-level scores and weights, final score, and payment adjustment information.

For more information, email the Anesthesia Quality Institute at askaqi@asahq.org or the ASA Department of Quality and Regulatory Affairs at qra@asahq.org.

2019 Targeted review period open

Upon review, if a MIPS eligible clinician or group believes there is a discrepancy in their 2019 report, they can request a targeted review by October 5, 2020. ECs and groups can request a targeted review by visiting the Quality Payment Program (QPP) website and logging in with HARP credentials. For more information about how to request a targeted review, review the Targeted Review User Guide.

New Internal Improvement Measure: Intraoperative Hypotension measure (IIM025)

Approved by the Anesthesia Quality Institute (AQI) as an internal improvement measure, the Intraoperative Hypotension (IOH) quality measure supports an increasing desire for objective quality measurement and reporting with no provider documentation burden.

ePreop and the Cleveland Clinic are co-stewarding the IOH quality measure to encourage qualified anesthesia providers to maintain an intraoperative mean arterial pressure above 65 mmHg to reduce the risk of adverse outcomes such as acute kidney injury and myocardial injury.

Clinicians reporting quality data through NACOR's Quality Concierge® can participate in the IOH measure without burden. Sign up today.

2020 Improvement Activity Component

For groups to attest to an activity at least 50% of the clinicians (in the group) must perform the same activity during any continuous 90-day period, or as specified in the activity description, within the same performance period

  • This category will be audited for the 2020 MIPS reporting year
  • Practices should maintain a list of NPIs of the clinicians who performed the improvement activity for up to 6 years as well as documentation that the IA was completed
  • Practices will be randomly selected and will need to provide a roster of clinicians who completed the IA to AQI
  • Audits will take place in January or February 2021 (must be completed before CMS Submission)

The IA attestation process will be updated in the NACOR dashboard - more details to follow in the coming months. For more information email askaqi@asahq.org.

Review your NACOR dashboard

Remember to review your 2020 quality reports in the NACOR dashboard. For practices that have uploaded new data files, AQI encourages a member of your practice to review the NACOR dashboard, as it allows you to monitor your providers' performance, as well as pinpoint any problems with the data and make necessary corrections prior to data submission deadlines. For more information, email askaqi@asahq.org.
