2022 MIPS highlights

The following changes  highlights to the 2022 MIPS program are highlighted below:

Changes:

  • Achieve a MIPS Final Score of 75 points to avoid a possible payment adjustment. (The threshold was 60 points for 2021.)
  • Category Weightings
  • Quality 30%, Cost 30%, Improvement Activities 15%, Promoting Interoperability 25%

Remains the same:

  • Report at least six quality measures (1 Outcome or High Priority if Outcome not available) for 70% of the eligible cases per measure for the full calendar year.
  • Negative payment adjustment of up to 9% in 2024.
  • When attesting to an Improvement Activity, at least 50% of the practice's providers are required to participate in the activity for a consecutive 90-day period during the PY.

2022 measures and improvement activities available

AQI is supporting thirty-one measures for the 2022 reporting year (17 QCDR and 14 MIPS). The 2022 AQI/NACOR QCDR measures were approved by CMS and are available on the AQI website.

Please note the following quality measures have been retired by CMS and are not available for 2022 submission:

  • AQI 55: Team based implementation of a care and communication bundle for ICU patients
  • MIPS 44: Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG):  Preoperative Beta Block in Patients with Isolated CABG Surgery
  • AQI 154: Falls Risk Assessment

The following quality measures are new for the 2022 MIPS Performance Year:

  • ABG 41 : Upper Extremity Nerve Blockade in Shoulder Surgery
  • ABG 43:  Use of Capnography for non-Operating Room anesthesia Measure

CMS removed the following Improvement Activities for the 2022 Performance Year:

  • IA_ BE_13 Regularly Assess the Patient Experience of Care Through Surveys, Advisory Councils and/or Other Mechanisms
  • IA_ BE_17 Use of Tools to Assist Patient Self-Management
  • IA_ BE_20 Implementation of Condition-Specific Chronic Disease Self-Management Support Programs
  • IA_ BE_21 Improved Practices that Disseminate Appropriate Self-Management Materials
  • IA_PSPA_11 Participation in CAHPS or Other Supplemental Questionnaire

Register for 2022 NACOR reporting

Quality reporting practices can now begin the enrollment process for the Anesthesia Quality Institute's (AQI) 2022 NACOR Quality Reporting by completing the 2022 online order form. NACOR is a designated QR and QCDR for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' Quality Payment Program. Practices who can only report MIPS measures should register for the Qualified Registry. Practices participating with AQI's Quality Concierge do not need to register.

AQI's NACOR quality reporting options include the following offerings in 2022 to ensure that NACOR remains the leader in anesthesiology: Quality Concierge, NACOR Quality Reporting, NACOR Benchmarking and NACOR Basic.

January through November 2022 data submission: January 31, 2023

Individual Quality Reporting Consent Submission: January 31, 2023

Improvement Activity Attestation: January 31, 2023

CMS Opt-Out for Individual Reporting: January 31, 2023

TIN/NPI Reconciliation: January 31, 2023

All data submissions: February 15, 2023
