Updating Provider Lists

April is a good time to do a little spring cleaning of your practice’s provider list. The main items to check are the following:

Provider Status - the current status of the provider for your practice.

  • Active
  • Inactive - Providers that are on a temporary leave and will be coming back to the practice
  • Any providers that have retired or are no longer with the practice should be removed from the list.

Provider Types: When reconciling your provider lists, make sure all NPIs are assigned the proper provider type (MD-Anesthesia, CRNA, DO, AA, SRNA, Resident, etc.).

Please note that only NPI numbers are included in the data files uploaded to NACOR. If you would like to see provider names, they will need to be entered manually.

For assistance with provider list updates please refer to this guide or email askaqi@asahq.org.

Register for 2022 NACOR reporting

Quality reporting practices can now begin the enrollment process for the Anesthesia Quality Institute's (AQI) 2022 NACOR Quality Reporting by completing the 2022 online order form. NACOR is a designated QR and QCDR for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' Quality Payment Program. Practices who can only report MIPS measures should register for the Qualified Registry. Practices participating with AQI's Quality Concierge do not need to register.

AQI's NACOR quality reporting options include the following offerings in 2022 to ensure that NACOR remains the leader in anesthesiology: Quality Concierge, NACOR Quality Reporting, NACOR Benchmarking and NACOR Basic.

For more information, please email askaqi@asahq.org.

2021 Internal Improvement Measures released

AQI recently released Internal Improvement Measures for reporting to the National Anesthesia Clinical Outcomes Registry (NACOR). The collection of 27 measures is intended for internal improvement purposes only and are optional for practices to report.

Reporting these measures may aid a practice in benchmarking their performance, demonstrating their value and quality care to payers and facility administrations, or as part of practice and quality improvement initiatives. The top five IIM measures preported in 2021 are the following:

  • IIM 12 - Unplanned Transfer or Admission to Hospital
  • IIM 5 - Perioperative Mortality Rate
  • IIM 6 - Postanesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Re-intubation Rate
  • IIM 3 - Perioperative Cardiac Arrest
  • IIM 18 - New Corneal Injury Not Diagnosed Prior to Discharge

CMS has not recognized and will not accept these measures as part of an anesthesiologist's or practice's participation in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), or as part of an Advanced Alternative Payment Model (APM). AQI will not send data gathered on these measures to CMS.
