All data submissions to NACOR must use the 2020 version of the XML schema that is posted on the AQI website. Any files submitted using the 2019 format will fail validation. Please check with your vendor to ensure they are using the updated version. For more information, email AskAQI@asahq.org.

2020 Internal Improvement Measures (IIM) specifications

AQI recently released Internal Improvement Measures for reporting to the National Anesthesia Clinical Outcomes Registry (NACOR). The collection of 25 measures is intended for internal improvement purposes only and are optional for practices to report.

Reporting these measures may aid a practice in benchmarking their performance, demonstrating their value and quality care to payers and facility administrations, or as part of practice and quality improvement initiatives. CMS has not recognized and will not accept these measures as part of an anesthesiologist's or practice's participation in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), or as part of an Advanced Alternative Payment Model (APM). AQI will not send data gathered on these measures to CMS.

Quick tips for completing 2020 registration

To make the 2020 registration process easier, consider these tips before completing the registration form:

  1. Review the NACOR reporting options
    • MIPS Reporting - Quality Concierge or NACOR Quality Reporting
    • Local Quality Improvement - NACOR Basic or NACOR Benchmarking
  2. If submitting to CMS for MIPS, check your clinician's MIPS eligibility on the QPP website
  3. Determine if your practice should report as a group or as individuals
  4. If MIPS opt-in eligible, consider opting-in
    • To opt-in the clinician must meet 1 or 2 of the 3 MIPS low volume threshold criteria
  5. Understand care team model versus independent CRNA
    • Care team - Physician anesthesiologist supervises the anesthesia team (AAs and CRNAs)
    • Independent CRNA - Practices without a written collaborative agreement, supervision or conditions for practice

NACOR registration forms are completed annually for NACOR Basic, NACOR Benchmarking and NACOR Quality reporting participants. Quality Concierge clients are not required to complete the form. For assistance with the registration form, email AskAQI@asahq.org.
